Layer: US National Grid (ID: 617)

Name: US National Grid

Display Field: GZD

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: Polygon grid where each cell of the grid defines a 1000m by 1000m (1km by 1 km) square, used to assign a spatial address according to the United States National Grid. The United States National Grid (USNG) has been a Minnesota state government geospatial standard since 2009 for use during disasters and it is endorsed by FEMA. It has practical advantages over using geographic coordinates (latitude, longitude) being that it correlates directly to field measurements. Therefore, distances can be accurately calculated between two locations easily, and the precision of locations and measurements can be maintained consistently across the state and nation.
